"The
R.L. Stevenson Trailis a wonderful walk...
On September
22nd, 1878 the young Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson set off on foot from
Monastier-sur-Gazeille (Haute-Loire) with a donkey called Modestine. Twelve days,
220 kms and many adventures later, he arrived in Saint-Jean-du-Gard. his diary
of the walk - first published in 1879 under the title Travels with a Donkey
in the Cévennes - has been read and loved by generations of readers just
like his other famous books Trasure Island and The Strange Case of
Doctor Jekyll and Myster Hyde.

Today, many people
still enjoy walking the Stevenson Trail, with or without a donkey. In 1994, the
"Association sur le Chemin de R.L. Stevenson" was created. Its aim is
to promote the rail by creating a working network of service providers. The
"Relais Stevenson" offer accomodation, meals, donkey hire, guided
walks etc ; and are situated on - or near- the Stevenson footpath (G.R. 70).
They have a common ail : to work together to offer a quality product. You will
find their details in this brochure and will receive a warm welcome from any one
of them."
The GR 70 crosses the canton and spend to Langogne, Fouzillac, Cheylard L'Evêque, Luc, The Bastide ….
